Valentine’s Day is not the only day you should take time to show someone that you love them. It should be a reminder that everyday should be Valentine’s Day. Bring back date night in a big way! Romance should be evident in your relationship all the time, not just on the 14th of February.
A Romantic Night In
If you don’t live in a big city where a blissful night on the town is possible, you can still have an incredibly romantic evening by staying in.
Have a movie night, a picnic on the living room floor or a candlelight dinner out on the patio. It will be like a date night if you send the kids off to sleep over at a friends or to bed a little early.
All you need are some candles, a great meal (get take out to go if you don’t cook) and a movie and you are ready to go. You’ll feel like you’ve spent a night out on the town but really you never left your house!
If you have kids, have a light dinner with them at your normal dinner time and then have a little larger meal later in the evening after they have gone too bed. Better yet, get a fancy dessert and some wine and have dessert on the patio by candlelight!
Personal Gifts to Top it Off
Giving a gift is something that will have even more meaning if done on when someone is not expecting it. Leaving a gift on the kitchen table for her to find when she wakes up in the morning is a great way to make her day. You may not say, “I went to Jared’s,” but with a bit of thoughtfulness and creativity, “I went to Personal Creations” will be just as special (if not more so) in the end. Nothing better than a surprise that says I love you.
Leave a Note
Here’s a challenge and an idea! Buy a pad of those multi colored Post-it notes and challenge yourself to write one out everyday. Stick it on the coffee maker, the mirror or on top of the tub of butter in the fridge. Make your note simple but meaningful. Here are some great ideas of what to say:
- Thank you for everything you do for me
- I love you
- I love waking up next to you
- When I think of you, I always smile
- You remind me everyday how lucky I am
- Life is much better with you in it
The truth is, the couples that make everyday like Valentine’s Day are the ones that have longevity in their passion for each other. If you are a couple of tired parents that are desperate for a date night or a couple that has been together forever and just need to reconnect, it is never too late to start.
